Inspiration from Mistakes

My first image of Priscilla Martin could have been great, except that I neglected to turn on the flash trigger. An image taken at f/11 and 1/125th second is naturally going to look quite dark - and it was. I turned to our friend Goushilya Rowland (who was very helpful assisting on this shoot) and said that mistake had given me the idea that we should try a few silhouettes. This was easily accomplished by turning off the main, fill and hair lights and using only two lights aimed at the white seamless background behind her. Oh, and umm... turning on the flash trigger!

The ultra-mysterious Priscilla Martin.

The ultra-mysterious Priscilla Martin.

Just as a black and white image adds mystery by hiding colors, a black and white silhouette and even more mystery by hiding detail. As they say, mystery lives in the shadows. In order to get a graphically-strong image like this to work, the model must have an incredible figure; no problem for Priscilla!
