Sampling Clothes Color in Glamour Composites

A simple background focuses attention on the model. One way to achieve a very simple background is to design a custom background that is wothin the same color palette as the model's clothing. This yields a simplified color palette that puts even more attention on the model. Here is an image of Michelle Nguyen Richards where the studio background has been masked out and replaced with a blue color. This darker blue color was sampled from the shadow area on her right sleeve near her hair using the Eyedropper, and set as the Foreground Color. This color was filled into a blank layer:

One could stop here, or take one more step. A lighter blue color was sampled from the collar, making it the new Foreground Color. A new blank layer was created, and the Lasso Tool used to draw a rough circle around Michelle's head and shoulders. This was filled with the light blue Foreground Color, deselected, and given a 1,000 pixel Gaussian Blur:
